Where Shall I Go? (2024- ), video, 18``00`

This video is based on a screenplay written in English and Mandarin Chinese. Set in 3D environments drawn from the memory of my hometown Shanghai, the video begins with animated footage of the pandemic lockdown, storage space, and aerial perspective in Shanshui painting, overlayed with prose poem intertitles written based on journal entries between 2022-2024. It then transitions to a monologue performance set in real time - current home in New York. Through monologues on unattainability of the past and the desire to be understood in the present moment, set against the backdrop of the post-Shanghai pandemic lockdown, I reflect on my struggle with whether there is a fixed sense of belonging, and how this evolves amid the turbulence of everyday life and the malleability of language. Through the video, I hope to illuminate a lexicon of migration that embodies ephemerality and the unknown future to come.
